SUSTAINABLE URBAN DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

Los Sustainable Urban Drainage System, are components of urban water infrastructure, preferably vegetated (naturalized) and designed to filter, retain, infiltrate, transport and store rainwater, so that it does not suffer any damage or even allow for removal, naturally, of part of the pollutant load that may have acquired by previous urban runoff processes. These systems have very important advantages in terms of economic return, reduced flooding, reduced diffuse pollution, curbed denaturation, aquifer recovery, etc..

These systems have very important advantages in terms of economic return, reduced flooding, reduced diffuse pollution, curbed denaturation, aquifer recovery, etc.. Looking at the natural water cycle we see that is simple and that is perfectly optimized. Part of rainwater is collected by plants before it touches the ground, the rest, once on the soil, meets the ground field capacity before producing surface and subsurface runoff that feeds our rivers. The water is purified naturally in rivers, lakes and wetlands and infiltrating or feeding aquifers.

However, the urban water cycle is completely different. The water, before reaching the ground is already contaminated, dragging the suspended particles in the polluted atmosphere. In the city there is little canopy interception, in addition, most of the surfaces are waterproof and have barely field capacity so that the water runs rapidly through gutters and pavements, focusing on very little time in the sewer systems. Moreover, since in urban areas almost no infiltration occurs, the aquifers beneath the cities are not refilled.

Within this conceptual framework Sifonika designs and installs the AquaCell product line from the multinational company Wavin, which consist of modular tanks for use in industrial, commercial or residential sustainable urban drainage systems projects.

Source control systems: source control techniques are designed to address from the beginning the formation of surface runoff. Climate change with its alternation of heavy rainfall and severe droughts requires, in water management, a more technical and more effective approach, framed in a sustainable development policy. New solutions to increase the participation and its quality everyday in the construction of the future of water are imposed. Sifonika offers a complete and customizable solution for the development of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) to facilitate the creation of an infiltration, retention or water reuse tank.

Infiltration tanks: With the application of these systems we want to recover for cities the infiltration capacity of natural soils. This is achieved by increasing the percentage of permeable surface in the city through green areas, permeable pavements, infiltration tanks, manholes and infiltration trenches. Permeable pavements, infiltration trenches and infiltration tanks are systems designed with the aim of recovering the infiltration capacity of the area occupied acting at the same time as a filter. These techniques ensure source control before producing large of major storms before producing superficial runoff and face the pollution carried by the first wash from adjacent impervious areas. In the design stage the terrain on which you are working should be taken into account, the rate of infiltration should be adequate and the water table should not be affected by the excavation. Also, you cannot build these systems to within 5 meters of a building or a road not to affect the foundations (as a general rule).

Retention / Lamination tanks: retention tanks are structures designed to slow down for a few hours the storm runoff. Its mission is to laminate large avenues, reducing peak flow and limiting the risk of flooding.

Storage tanks:  These tanks are structures designed to accumulate rainwater for reuse mainly to irrigate gardens.
